Our Christchurch accommodation is situated in a terrific location for visitors to the city. To help make your visit as enjoyable as possible we have compiled together our most frequently asked questions with informative answers. How many people can stay in an apartment at City Apartments?
We have a selection of one and two bedroom self contained apartments available. Our one bedroom apartments have a queen-size bed suitable for a single person or a couple, while our two bedroom apartments normally have a queen-size bed and two single beds available.

How can I check apartment availability?
You will need to contact our reservation team via our contact us page or by using the request a quotation page. We will contact you within 24 hours to advise of availability.

Can I just turn up at City Apartments or do I need to book in advance?
Because of the popularity of City Apartments and our central location, we definitely recommend advance bookings.

What is the minimum length of stay?
We can offer rates for a single night stay as well as longer stays. Simply contact us and we will happily provide you with a quote for the number of nights you require accommodation.

What is included in your accommodation rates?
City Apartment rates include a ‘Starter Pack’ upon your arrival, weekly service, use of on-site gym, covered car-park (upon request) and on-site management.

How often will the apartment be serviced?
Your apartment will be professionally cleaned and ready for your arrival on the first day. For those staying longer than 3 nights, you will be provided with clean bathroom linen (don’t forget you have your own washing machine and dryer) and your self-catering apartment will be serviced weekly. If you would prefer to have your apartment serviced and cleaned daily then please contact us and we will provide you with a quote for this additional service.

What is your check in and check out times?
We appreciate that our guests are either relaxing on holiday or juggling important meetings, for this reason we have extended our check out time to 11am. Due to daily cleaning and maintenance our apartments are not available for check in until 2pm. Upon check-out just leave your apartment key on the dining table of your apartment.

How far in advance can I book an apartment?
Self catering apartments are still a new concept for short term accommodation in New Zealand, however there is a high demand for apartment accommodation in central Christchurch as many people are now realising the many benefits of this type of accommodation when compared to a hotel. Therefore we advise that you book as soon as possible, especially during peak season.

I have submitted my booking form and credit card - what happens now?
Customer service is our number one priority, therefore your accommodation request will be processed as quickly as possible, preferably within 24 hours of receiving your booking. If an apartment is available for the dates you specified, your booking will be finalised and your credit card will be charged a 10% deposit. If you wish to cancel your booking after this, you will incur a cancellation fee (please refer to our secure payments page for conditions). If a city apartment is not available, we will contact you with a suitable alternative suggestion and no payment will be incurred.

What is your Reservation Policy?
No reservation will be accepted or guaranteed without a 10% deposit made via a valid credit card number, cardholders name and card expiry date to be supplied at the time the reservation is made.

I have paid my deposit, when am I expected to pay the remainder for the night(s) I have booked?
Upon your arrival we will take you through the check-in process and your Credit Card will be charged the balance of the amount owing for your stay at that time.

What happens if I decide I want to leave sooner than originally planned when I first made my booking?
We cannot be responsible for bad weather, illness, changes in travel plans or travel delays. We are a boutique accommodation provider, which means we can offer better rates than a hotel of the same standard. However we do not have the large number of rooms a hotel does, therefore when you originally booked your apartment we have had to say “no” to other guests interested in booking that apartment. Therefore, if you decide to check out a day (or more) earlier than originally booked, unless we can obtain a new booking to accommodate that apartment, there will be no refund on the full cost of accommodation.

What is your Cancellation Policy?
Cancellation after reservation confirmation is 10% and unless advised otherwise, we require 30 days notice of cancellation that applies to the full term of your reservation. If you have to cancel at short notice, or when guests fail to arrive, every endeavor will be made to re-let your booking, however if we are unsuccessful then you will be responsible for the balance owing.

How can I amend or cancel my booking?
Should you wish to amend or cancel your existing booking, please contact us as soon as possible. Simply go to the Contact Us page which provides many options for contacting us, or email info@city-apartments.co.nz.

Why do I have to include my credit card number?
To allow us to proceed with your booking request, we require you to submit your credit card details for payment of your 10% deposit to secure your booking. Your credit card information is strictly confidential.

Is it safe to use my credit card?
Yes. We treat the security of our guest’s information very seriously. To ensure your security, all credit card transactions are secured by SSL, which encrypts the credit card number so as to make it unavailable to any other party.

Can I book an apartment without a credit card?
City Apartments require credit card details (as a form of guarantee or part payment) to reserve an apartment. This is why a credit card is needed - to guarantee the booking.

Which credit card types do you accept?
We only accept Visa, MasterCard and Amex.

What currency will my Credit Card be charged?
New Zealand banking laws require that all credit card transactions be charged in New Zealand currency.

What is the difference between a self catering apartment and a hotel room?
A fully self-contained/catering apartment means all our apartments offer most of the conveniences you enjoy in your own home or up-market holiday house. The apartments feel like a ‘home’ with full kitchen and cooking facilities (including dishwasher), separate bathroom, a laundry that includes a washing machine and dryer, a living room and dining area. You don’t have to worry about intrusive cleaners waking you in the morning or your privacy being invaded. Check out our Facilities page to find out what City Apartments has to offer.

Is your apartment accommodation suitable for children?
Our one bedroom apartments are not really suitable for children, however the two bedroom apartments give everyone a bit of space (and beds!). Simply complete our online Request a Quotation form and we will advise accordingly.

Can I entertain guests in my apartment?
Your City Apartment is designed to be your home away from home and you are free to entertain guests whenever you like. City Apartments have a dining and living area, a dining table and extra dining and glassware so you can have people over for a quick drink or for an evening meal whipped up in your fully equipped kitchen.

Are City Apartments a safe and secure place to stay?
Yes! Entrance to the complex and carpark area is via security keypad entry only. Each apartment also has it’s own intercom linked to the front door, so any guests visiting will need to contact you via the intercom to gain access to the building.

Are your apartments centrally located and close to public transportation?
Yes. City Apartments are perfectly located for people who come to Christchurch to take advantage of the city. We are located in a central and popular upscale accommodation area near tourist attractions and business centers. Our apartments are only a 5 minute walk from public bus transportation.

What about property or chattel damage?
Our City Apartments are furnished with top quality chattels, therefore any damage to the property or chattels caused by guests will be charged to the guest who made the booking. Should you find anything damaged prior to your stay, please advise us immediately. Failure to do so will deem you to be totally responsible for the condition of the property on departure.
